As you stroll throughout Tenerife, you'll find numerous examples of traditional Canarian woven baskets, embroidery and ceramics on display and for sale. The skills and techniques involved in creating these beautiful native crafts have been handed down through the generations.
Tenerife people love to party and celebrate, and many traditional fiestas honoring saints and religious events are frequent occurrences. The island's largest festivities are carnival celebrations that include parades, folk dancing and music. Loud and festive, they welcome both locals and visitors to join in the revelry.
The best known is the annual Mardi Gras Carnival at Santa Cruz – the second largest Mardi Gras festival in the world. Held in February, this spectacular event draws virtually all Tenerife residents – and visitors – to enjoy its joyful, non-stop festivities. Another well-known celebration is the Fiesta of Corpus Christi, which showcases carpets painstakingly crafted of sand and flowers by local residents.
